Starting a Non-Profit In My 20's

There's something to be said about having a dream. I can't say enough how often I used to change my mind about what I wanted to do in my life. I say used to as if I still don't change my mind constantly, but that's another story. I've always found that having a dream keeps me moving forward - even if that dream is different from year to year or even month to month (post coming soon on giving up on dreams).

My most recent communal dream was to start our own theater company focused on making alternative theater accessible to the community. In September of 2017, a friend of mine made a joke about starting our own company so we could put on "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" together again. He had been director the year I played Dr. Frank-N-Furter (2016) which happened to be my first ever lead performance. The cast and team were really close that year and we had missed being with one another as the current year's RHPS auditions commenced.  What they didn't expect was me starting a group chat with the people of that cast and crew who would actually start a theater company. Fast forward a week and 9 of us were working to create what is now known as Attitude Check Theater Inc

In May of 2018, ACT went live to the world announcing who we are and what we plan to do. Our first ever show goes up on June 30th, 2018. We will be performing RHPS the last Saturday of every month and plans for our first play will be announced soon.  If you would like to know more about the company check out the facebook page, snapchat, Instagram, or our website (coming soon).

It's weird knowing that we took this journey over the past few months and actually did something with it. When I tell people that I'm the Vice-President of a Non Profit recognized theater company at 23, I always get some really surprised reactions. This is 9 months in the making and a joint effort between 9 amazing individuals who all came together with a dream in mind and I can't wait to see where this company goes. This is the thing that I've been hinting about for a while and I'm so excited to share it with you all.
