Fictional Not Fantasy
Fictional Not Fantasy

I graduated High School with no real path ahead of me. I went to University undeclared and unsure of who I wanted to be. The thing is, I had a lot of interests - more interests than I had time for. By the end of my Bachelors Degree I had spent a lot of time being active on campus.

I pledged a local sorority - I got dropped. I pledged a national sorority - I got initiated, Once a Phi Sigma Sigma, Always a Phi Sigma Sigma. I helped found a club. I joined theatre. I became a lighting designer. I created a YouTube Channel. I was a Resident Assistant and then a Senior Resident Assistant. I switched majors three times and I still had no idea what I wanted to do or who I wanted to be.

I graduated as a Commonwealth Honors Scholar with degrees in Crime & Justice Studies and English Writing, Rhetoric, and Communications. I was recognized with the Susan T. Costa award for a dedicated student leader with an interest in working in Higher Education.

Not knowing where I wanted to be, I floundered. I spent months looking for a job and only managed to work part time at a retail store. I got put on the alternate list for the Disney College Program. I stuck to reading and creating content online. Eight of my friends and I founded a non-profit organization known as Attitude Check Theater. Eventually a job fell into my lap - I started teaching Special Education at a charter school and I really enjoyed it.

I actually left that job for a teaching fellowship and a masters candidacy studying Professional Writing & Communication. I left that non-profit to two of the people who helped start it to focus on other things. Since then, that is exactly what I’ve been doing - teaching undergraduate communications classes and studying how to be a better communicator myself.

I started writing for The Torch, my University’s student run newspaper. Got back onstage rather than behind the scenes for a couple of shows. My class work took up the most of my time though. I wrote a research paper on how rhetoric can be applied at the University level to aid in building community, researched how visual rhetorical theory can be applied to instagram poetry and is expanding the genre, and more.

Currently …

I’m just trying to get through it. I don’t have my plan laid out but I have a few ideas of what it is that I want to do. This summer, I’m interning in Boston. Though, mostly I’m working on my YouTube channel Fictional Not Fantasy and trying to update my blog as much as possible. Outside of that I’m working on a media challenge that I’ve taken on for the last 4 years: trying to watch 100 movies and read 50 books.

If you want to keep up to date on what I’ve been doing, where I’m going, what I’ve been reading or watching, keep up with my blog here, my channel over on YouTube, and/or follow my Instagram and Twitter accounts.
